RELATION BETWEEN TEMPERATURE AND KINETIC ENERGY.
Aim: To establish the relationship between temperature and average kinetic energy.
Apparatus: Two bowls, food colour, cold water, hot water.
Procedure:
1. Take two bowls one with hot water and second with cold water.
2. Gently sprinkle food colour on the surface of the water in both bowls.
Observations:
1. We will observethe jiggling of grains of food colour in hotwater is more when compared to jiggling in cold water.
Explanation:
1. We know kinetic energy depends on speed motion of particles.
2. So the kinetic energy of hotter bodyis greater than that of colder body.
3. Thus the temperature of a body is an indicator of average kinetic energy of molecules of that body.
Conclusion:
Therefore Average kinetic energy of molecules is directly proportional to absolute temperature.
